If OHSS is severe, the patient may need to be hospitalized. In this very rare problem, the patient is first given an IV drip. Then the fluid accumulated in the abdomen is drained with a needle. The patient undergoing in vitro fertilization in case of overdeveloped syndrome is kept in the hospital for about 15 days. During the 15-day period, the fluid accumulated in the abdomen is drained 10 to 15 times.
