The journey of pregnancy is incredible. Think about the huge changes a mother goes through physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and as an individual. While every pregnancy journey is different, there are some commonalities in most pregnancies. To help prepare our expectant mothers, we’ve created a pregnancy timeline (Week by Week Pregnancy Guide). With this guide, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of what’s happening and why.

What is a Trimester?
Pregnancy is generally divided into three trimesters, each lasting approximately three months. These trimesters mark important developmental stages for the foetus and various changes in the mother’s body. Understanding these stages can help expectant mothers take the necessary steps and prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Each three-month period of pregnancy comes (Week by Week Pregnancy) with its own joys and challenges.
From tracking fetal movements and the baby’s overall development to early pregnancy morning sickness, each has its own distinct characteristics, yet every woman’s experience is different and unique—in fact, every pregnancy can be different even for the same woman. This is an invitation for every pregnant woman to tune into her body and heart daily and trust that beautiful things are on the horizon! Following our Week by Week Pregnancy Guide can be a guiding light during these times.

Week by Week Pregnancy
1st Trimester (First 3 Months)
Week by Week Pregnancy : This trimester begins with conception and continues until the 12th week. Most women learn they are pregnant between 3 and 9 weeks, usually when they miss their last period or take frequent tests. If you have been pregnant before, you may notice early signs sooner. During this time, your baby will develop from a single zygote (a fertilised egg) into a foetus over 2 inches long. At this point, your baby has already developed the foundations for all major organs and systems.
What might be happening in your body: Significant changes in hormone levels can lead to nausea (morning sickness), unusual and specific cravings, and breast tenderness. Despite this, you may lose weight due to nausea or feel a bit bloated and tight in your jeans. On the bright side, higher oestrogen levels can extend the hair growth cycle, leading to thicker hair (and in many cases, shinier hair too!). (Week by Week Pregnancy)

2nd Trimester (Second 3-Month Period)
Week by Week Pregnancy : Welcome to weeks 13–28! This is the trimester when pregnancy becomes more real — mainly because you will have a growing baby and everyone will know about it. You can share your joys, get advice (or politely decline it) and experience the excitement of what lies ahead. Over the next 16 weeks, your baby will develop hearing, hair, eyebrows, and martial arts skills (many women experience the first kicks and movements between weeks 16 and 25). Many people consider the second trimester the ‘golden age’ due to the renewed energy many women experience. The negative symptoms of the first trimester will decrease, and your belly will begin to rise with a cute baby bump.
Your belly will really start to show, so don’t be surprised by random ‘ohs,’ ‘ahhs,’ and ‘when are you due?’ questions from friends, neighbours, and even strangers. Amidst the angelic glow and happiness, you may experience back pain, heartburn, leg cramps, and changes in your skin and hair. These symptoms vary slightly from person to person. 3rd Trimester (Third 3-Month Period)
Week by Week Pregnancy ; The due date is now very close. When you enter the 29th week, you are considered to be in your third trimester, and you will reach full term by the 40th week. The final trimester is characterised by your baby’s final developments. Their eyes can open and close, and they may even follow a light. Their lungs are nearing completion, and both you and your baby are gaining weight rapidly (which is a good thing!). The light at the end of the tunnel is approaching quickly. In the final month, you may have difficulty sleeping, experience excessive movement and contractions in your baby, known as Braxton-Hicks contractions, which are signs of either real or false labour.
You may have trouble sleeping or finding a comfortable position while lying down. As the baby prepares for birth, it will ‘drop,’ and you may feel this as a sudden movement or it may happen gradually without you noticing. At this stage of the pregnancy timeline, you may experience false labour pains weeks before delivery. Unlike real labour contractions, which come at regular intervals and increase in intensity, false labour contractions are usually irregular and do not increase in intensity. If the contractions are consistent and getting stronger, this is a sign that you should go to the hospital or birth centre! (Week by Week Pregnancy)
